This is a great piece. It works wonderful for dip. My favorite is to make spinach dip and place it in the hostess bowl, then I place the bowl in the center of the large fiesta pizza pan. Cut up in cubes a loaf of hawiian sweet bread and place on the pizza plate surrounding the bowl.

This gets a five-star rating from me just for its looks. Although, I too have struggled to find regular use for it at the table. Upside-down would really draw attention to the nice detailing that gets lost when used as a bowl. I saw a photo of an upside-down hostess bowl with a 12-inch Fiesta baking tray made into a cake stand. It looked very nice, except I'm not sure how they attached the base. Epoxy?

This is a gorgeous bowl! I didn't know they still made these! I was hoarding the ones I had from J C Penny's years ago when they were an exclusive to that store, because I didn't know that Homer Laughlin still made them! These are great when used upside-down as a base for a large candle (as many tend to think was the original design purpose for this strange-looking bowl!). Also great as a center-piece in a Fiesta display. Not really all that useful on the table, but a definite showstopper when used as a decorative item!
